It took thirteen years before we finally hosted a ChannelNEXT event in the Maritimes. We have already booked another event for next year September 14, 2016 as we now make this an annual activity. It was a success on all measurement scales. More importantly, the response from the VARs and MSPs who attended all gave the thumbs up!

As one attendee said it nicely on video “It is a no-brainer, every VAR should attend!” Watch more videos atwww.ecntv.ca.

Our opening panel discussion on the future trends of the IT Channel featured Rick McCutcheon from FullContactSelling, Randal Wark from IT Revolution and Majd Madina from CompTIA. Hosted by Julian Lee of TechnoPlanet, the discussion covered several bases as it uncovered the facts about the transition of the next generation channel partners. It also highlighted some of the big challenges that early adopters are facing such as effective billing for managed services.

Kelly O’Bray, Community Manager, LogicNow revealed some new research on how service providers are changing to address customers in an increasingly mobile cloud-connected world. He outlined the next steps for service providers and the industry. It was also interesting to explore the 5 stages of becoming a successful MSP. Seems like the path is not linear as there are several highs and lows until the magic happens.

Can you really increase your sales by 28% with just a 10% increase in your closing rates? Rick McCutcheon shows exactly how this can be possible. Sometimes the answer to increasing your sales is right under your nose.

Delegates had an opportunity to take a quick test to measure the health of their business. The results of the 8-question test was interesting as less than 10% indicated that they were well above average. Most had at least one area that they wanted to improve. It was great eye-opener for them to see some of their shortfalls and plot a course to improve.

Randal Wark went through his business vision exercise that shows the delegates just how important it is to have a solid business vision for their company that is also well understood by the entire staff.

Rob Low from StorageCraft wrapped up the afternoon session with an energetic presentation on the business of business continuity and how every VAR and MSP can get their piece of this big revenue pie. He also made it clear that the biggest growing threat to businesses may be an attack on their data. When all else fails, having a proper BDR solution in place may be the last and only line of defense.

Having the family-type dinner in the pub was very fitting for the friendly Maritime group. It was a great time as conversations went way beyond IT and well into the late evening in the hospitality suite. It is our impression that Maritimes may have the friendliest people in Canada.

Epson was able to open up several business partnerships in the region as many embraced the amazing line of exciting products. Several VARs said that they were surprised as to the depth of their latest product selection and were pleased with the solid margins.

Aerohive also showcased their powerful wireless networking solution that is sure to be a big moneymaker for the channel. It is a wireless world and companies like Aerohive offer the type of solutions that businesses and institutions need. Having a strong and secure wireless network is no longer an option today – it’s mandatory!

The delegates also got a chance to connect and build partnerships with several other vendors including Viewsonic, Tripp Lite, Canon, Veeam, Hammond Manufacturing, ibiz10, and Xerox.
