Cloud Computing, Managed Services, Social Media and e-Waste Management were some of the key topics at the recent ChannelNEXT Central. Held in Muskoka at the J.W. Marriott, the event was yet another great success for VARS and Vendors as they networked over two days. Even in this beautiful surroundings and great food it was all business as it kicked off with twelve hours of networking on day one.

Corey Copping of HP's networking division showcased their new and fully blended product line from their recent acquisition 3Com and ProCurve. "HP now offers a complete networking solution to fit just about every need and distribution is already geared up to sell", added Mr. Copping.

Social Media expert George Leff talked about how vendors and VARS can leverage social media to market their business and manage customer satisfaction. Embracing the good as well as the bad comments and dealing with them effectively seems to be key in getting social media to benefit your business. Mr. Leff said "You need to be listening to what others are saying about your company and react promptly before it gets out of control".

Doing business in "The Cloud" is a growing opportunity for the VARS. Peter Sutherland from ThinDesk demonstrated one way that VARS can be helping their customers and start making revenues today. Panda expanded their anti-virus protection service in the cloud that can now operate in parallel with any pre-installed anti-virus brand.

Kevin Krempulec of Kaspersky did a great overview on the latest Internet security threats and what it means to Canadian businesses. He also demonstrated how Kaspersky partners with the channel to manage these risks.

Lenovo is promoting their hardware as the best suited for managed services. With all of the built-in functionality, companies such as Kaseya can take full advantage to deliver best-in-class remote managed services. Jay McBain, Director of SMB Lenovo Americas, talked about the Lenovo Think Server TS 200V that delivers out of the box managed-server capabilities for under $500.

Several new VARS were surprised to see the quality of the event but were even more pleased to find some potential moneymaking partnerships.
